Magoha’s Weighty Reforms That Have Overwhelmed Raila

    The African Union Envoy accorded that the ongoing reforms in the education sector are expected to lead to the emergence of innovative and transformative minds, which will be able to provide solutions to the societal challenging factors.

    CS Magoha is currently spearheading a curriculum change to the 2-6-3-3-3 system, which is being promoted as talent-based.

    Magoha speaking on Thursday, further stated that he had discovered systemic rot deeply entrenched in Kenyan universities, going on to vow that he would eradicate it at all costs.

    During a session with the Parliamentary Committee on Education, the CS disclosed that several universities were running an extortion racket of offering courses not approved by the Commission for University Education.

    Raila spoke at UN offices in Gigiri, Nairobi, during the commemoration of International Youth Day, where he also came up with solutions on how to solve the conflict between education and job in the market, which remains a big problem in Kenya.

    The ODM leader further stated that the type of skills being instilled in students does not prepare them for the jobs that are in demand.

    “We must therefore adequately transform our education to become a powerful tool for achieving vision 2030 agenda for sustainable development of the national Big 4 agenda,” Raila reckoned.

    The ex-PM also challenged education providers to work more closely with employers in order to make sure that they offered courses that prepared young people for the workplace.

    “We need to create an environment where employers and education providers work closely to design a curriculum that fits business needs,” Raila obligated.

    According to Raila, there are more educated people in the country who are looking for work but are turned back by employers because they cannot find the required skills in them.

    He divulged that there was a need to empower youths with proper skills, which would enable them to become a proper force for wealth creation in society.
