Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru has said the Mt Kenya region is ready to vote for ODM leader Raila Odinga if he was to vie for presidency in 2022. The governor vowed she would comb every inch of the country looking for votes for Raila because the AU Envoy had proven he has everything that it takes to lead and address issues affecting women leadership.
” If it is Raila, he should know that the region will want a piece of his government. We discussed some serious politics. Of course we first settled the history we had together ,” said Waiguru who opened up during an interview with KTN’s Point Blank.
”Whether it is Raila or someone else, the presidential candidates must to know Mt Kenya needs representation at the top. At the moment, it would be preemptive. We are open and are uniting.”
She said they first had to settle the tension they had between her and Raila following the NYS Scandal which turned the two into bitter political rivals.
The governor said Central Kenya no longer have preferred candidate unlike in 2013 when all indications showed it was Ruto who was to inherit the populous vote rich region. Waiguru confirmed it is only President Uhuru who will give the region direction in 2022. She also hailed the handshake between President Uhuru and the ODM leader saying it stabilized the country.
” It was not really about future formations, but to support Mr Kenyatta’s decision to shake hands with Mr Odinga. You know this country was not in good shape after the 2017 elections,” she said on her visit to Raila Odinga’s office earlier in the year.
“Raila understands the challenges women are facing. He has spoken firmly about it even during the funeral of Joyce Laboso (the former Bomet Governor),” Waiguru said, pledging to support the BBI referendum.
